Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, browned
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ cup white granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red Food Dye
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup red, white, and blue M&M's

Instructions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, line your 8x8 baking dish with parchment paper for easy brownie removal later.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it turns golden brown and gives off a delicious nutty aroma.
  • Toss in the chocolate chips while the butter is still warm. Stir everything together until the chocolate chips melt completely, creating a smooth, glossy mixture.
  • Whisk in both the white and brown sugars and salt until everything is well combined. This step ensures you get that perfect sweet balance throughout the brownies.
  • Crack in the eggs and pour in the vanilla extract. Give everything a good whisk until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the red food dye to create that beautiful, rich burgundy color. Mix it in well. If you feel like it could be a little deeper, feel free to add more dye!
  • Fold in the cocoa powder and flour until they’re fully incorporated. You’ll notice the batter becoming thicker and more luscious. If you’re a stickler for that deep red hue, you can add more dye here too.
  • Now it’s time for the fun part—stir in the red, white, and blue M&M’s! These little guys not only add a burst of color but a nice pop of sweetness in every bite.
  • Pour the brownie batter into your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. For a little extra flair, sprinkle some more M&M's on top before baking. These brownies will bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes, but always check with a toothpick to ensure they’re fully baked. It should come out clean when done!
  • Once your brownies are baked to perfection, let them cool completely in the dish. After they’re cool, slice them up into squares. You’ll have a platter of gorgeous, colorful brownies ready to impress!
